Symon Clarke has worked with the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic, the Brno Philharmonic and the Philippines Philharmonic, the Gabrielli Brass Ensemble, Lontano, Divertimenti, the Chromatico Ensemble, the Kingfisher Ensemble, Klangwerk Münster, the Concorde Ensemble, the Medici String Quartet, the Brindisi String Quartet and soloists such as Jane Manning, Mary King, Christina Fuchs, Tine Verbeke, Tara Bouman, Stephan Froleyks, Andrew Ball, Beth Spendlove, Nigel Clayton, Sarah-Jane Bradley and Graham Walker.
His music has been recorded by Ablaze Records and Alpha Beta Gamelan and broadcast in the UK, Germany, Holland, Ireland and the Philippines. He has been a short-listed composer for the SPNM several times and won the Greater London Arts Composition Prize; his music was highly recommended in the Uuno Klami International Composition Competition in Finland.
During the 1990s Symon studied, played and composed music for the Javanese and Balinese Gamelan, working in the UK, Holland, Germany and the far east. His music for these instruments has been widely played to great acclaim, including a performance at the Glastonbury Festival!
He has recently completed a series of duos for various combinations of stringed instruments and the first of these was premiered at the William Alwyn Festival in 2015. The complete set of four duos will be recorded later this year and released by Ablaze Records in 2017. He is currently writing a concerto for violoncello and orchestra.
